Life is full of obstacles. Life Hacks are how you kick those obstacles in the teeth. This Life Hack via Reddit, is pure genius.

Hemingway had a few tricks up his sleeve to make sure he kept writing.

Maximizing productivity is a goal that a lot of people have. Ernest Hemingway, world famous author and winner of the 1954 Nobel Prize in literature, was a pretty productive guy. Hemingway had a secret to his productivity that seems almost too simple. He has a way to permanently keep himself from getting writer’s block.

Hemingway said:

“The best way is always to stop when you are going good and when you know what will happen next. If you do that every day … you will never be stuck. Always stop while you are going good and don’t think about it or worry about it until you start to write the next day. That way your subconscious will work on it all the time. But if you think about it consciously or worry about it you will kill it and your brain will be tired before you start”

Hemingway and other writers such as Roald Dahl have used this trick to keep them productive, and it seems to work.

So, the basic idea is don’t finish your daily task if you want to keep the momentum going. The more momentum, the more productivity. If you make finishing your task your next task, you will have more momentum when you start up again.

To put it simply:

You should stop your task when:

1) You know what you will do to finish it.
2) When you feel the drive to finish it.
3) When you reach a creativity peak.

—–Then don’t think about your task until the next day.—

Using Hemingway’s trick will help you to:
1) Avoid being stuck.
2) Keep your momentum going.
3) Start the next day with the reward of finishing a task.
4) Boost your self confidence and motivation level before moving on to the next task.
5) End your day on a high note.
6) Allow your brain purposeful rest when you stop working.
7) Allow your subconscious to work on the bigger picture while you relax.

This trick works not only for writing but for any creative process. So, no matter what you need to get done, take a tip from Hemingway and take a break when you’re ahead. You will feel more confident and be more productive!

Trust Fund Babies. Is there anything more annoying?

A lot of students are lucky enough to have Mom and Dad front the bill for their college education. College is expensive enough, but according to the Wall Street Journal, college isn’t the only thing parents are stuck paying for.

In all seriousness, some parents have always shelled out cash for their kids. With college graduates facing a brutal job market, kids are milking the teat for as long as possible. A better solution? Getting one or several internships before (or even after) graduating can help make all the difference.

After all, rich kids like to work for free, and with the bad economy, parents are worried.  So, an ever-more popular solution is buying their kids that foot in the door with an internship post-college. Prezi - Powerpoint killer? *fingers crossed*

For the sake of keeping things relevant, this post is about a presentation website that will make all of your future employers think that you are much more impressive than you will ever deserve. This website/software is called Prezi and uses a type of flash-esque [It's called Javascript, Ben -Ed.] technology to make your business proposals way more creative and ornate than they actually are. If you go to Prezi’s website, you’ll see why it’s so effective. I call it the Michel Gondry effect, where you stare at something seemingly simple, tilt your head, and think “how does that even happen?” It’s awesome.

Okay. Now that that’s established, the REAL reason why I am commenting on this wildly convenient website is because on the homepage of Prezi there is a man who gives a short video presentation of Prezi’s capabilities. Watch it and share my embarrassment for the poor man. As interns, people are going to ask you to do things that you don’t want to do. Sometimes it’s walking in the cold to the FedEx on 5th avenue. Sometimes it’s going to be going to Bed, Bath, and Beyond and getting a quote on doorknobs for the female bathroom.

It should never be humiliating yourself over the internet [I beg to differ -Ed.]. If you can’t read a teleprompter and you don’t know how a green screen works, let your boss know. If they are at all the kind of group of people who you want to eventually work for, they’ll understand.

Don’t make the same mistake that the Prezi man-boy made. Or DO make the same mistake that the Prezi man-boy made, and let us know about it so that I can write about it. Being an intern should be a learning experience. If you can make your mistakes public so that the rest of us can learn from it, we’re all better off. Thanks for the martyrdom Prezi.

For a lot of writers and creative types (myself included), when and where you write determines so much about what you write. Space, atmosphere — it’s all important. Every writer has their ticks and tricks…though most of us are shackled to computers, blips, bloops and buzzing abound.

Ok. So everyone and their mother has seen this video. If you haven’t: Welcome to the Internet. What’s an “Internet,” you ask? I dunno…I think Al Gore Tweeted about building a series of tubes in 1994 or something and voila! Internet.

Here’s a tip for all you fledgling professionals out there: DON’T CHECK OUT NAKED CHICKS ON THE INTERNET AT WORK. Particularly if a colleague is doing a TV interview right behind you. Any bets on whether or not this guys is still employed?

A Macquarie Bank employee was caught unawares as a co-worker gave an update on the Seven News Update (Australian news service near Perth).

And if you’re going to basically get yourself fired, maybe do it over some pics worth getting fired over. Go out in a blaze of glory.
